Model of Intellectual Resilience

The Model of Intellectual Resilience is composed of 3 dimensions represented on 3 spectra.  On each spectrum there are optimal positions identified as a balance of two characteristics and their corresponding detrimental positions on the extremes.
The dimensions of intellectual resilience are:

  • Orientation to Cognition-- explains the degree to which one trusts and accepts information.  The optimal position on this spectrum is a balance between open-mindedness and skepticism.  The corresponding detrimental positions are gullibility and cynicism.
  • Orientation to Deliberation-- explains the degree to which one reacts or reflects to cognitive stimuli. The optimal position on this spectrum is a balance between contemplation and intuition.  The corresponding detrimental positions are paralysis and recklessness.
  • Orientation to Determination--explains the degree to which one perseveres or relinquishes when mental resources become overwhelmed.  The optimal position on this spectrum is a balance between persistence and amenability.  The corresponding detrimental positions are obstinacy and resignation.
